International Nurses Day 2020: Nursing the World to Health

May 12 is observed as International Nurses Day every year. Also, this day marks Florence Nightingale’s 200th birth anniversary. She was the founder of modern nursing. On the occasion of International Nurse Day: Nursing the World to Health. The global health body has collaborated with the partners across the world to highlight the significance of nurses in the healthcare sector. On the World Health Day, WHO designated 2020 as the Year of the Nurse and Midwife.

Florence Nightingale was British social reformer too. She came into limelight while serving as manager and trainer of nurses during the Crimean War. She also laid the foundation of the nursing with establishing her nursing school at St Thomas’ Hospital in London. Nightingale has also published several works of her focusing on medical knowledge. She was a pioneer in data visualization with the use of infographics.

She made a comprehensive statistical study of sanitation in Indian rural life. Therefore, after a decade of sanitary reform, Nightingale reported that mortality among the soldiers in India had declined from 69 to 18 per 1,000.

 the outbreak of deadly Coronavirus, nurses are playing crucial role and fighting against the outbreak. Without nurses and all the health workers it would’ve been impossible to battle against it.  ICN’s theme for International Nurses Day 2020 is Nursing the World to Health. It showcases how nurses have contributed in health management also, it’s the year of Nurse and Midwife.
